I have a incredible love for collars. Ever since the original Miu Miu ones came out, I've been coveting them.. (their latest feather ones are just to die for!). I spied this one in Zara over the weekend and knew it was a must-have. They were flying off the shelves on that particular day, so I was lucky to grab the last one. I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot more of it on the blog, sparkle goes with everything! :-)

Why is it always windy when I take pics??! This outfit is surprisingly deceptive. Since arriving here I've quickly had to master the art of layering. I think there's about 5 layers going on here... The trick is thin layers to avoid looking like a Michelin man, those thin thermal tops work best, Uniqlo have some good ones! And long gloves work a treat.

This is the second hat I bought from the mad Hermes sample sale. I actually haven't worn it before, but although I like the colour, I don't have much green to wear it with. Something to think about next time I go shopping.

The weeks are flying by here! Not long until New York fashion week! I'm excited, but not sure what to expect, the whole scenario is very different to being at Somerset House in London. I'm also going to head to the IFB conference at Milk Studios. I don't know any bloggers in the city yet, if you're going I hope to see some of you there!

Lately I've become obsessed with the peplum look, especially for Spring. all these tops, skirts and dresses were so popular in the SS12 collections and all look so pretty. I've seen quite a few items starting to crop up in the high street stores and online too, particularly H&M, ASOS and ShopBop. They definitely add a cute twist to an outfit.

This is my latest that I scored from H&M (polka dots too, bonus!!). As it was freezing, I paired it with some slim jeans (and my Cambridge Satchel) but i'm desperate to try it with my black velvet polka dot pencil skirt once it gets warmer! Hurry up Spring!

Pleats on the rooftop

Some very windy pictures taken on our roof! I've never had a roof space before, and although the weather isn't great for it now, it's a perfect place to take pictures and for sunbathing and parties this summer! This is a relatively new skirt from American Apparel. Yes, pleats again, I just can't resist them! really into berry colours at the moment, I guess they're more autumnal than wintery but never mind :-)

The past few days have been spent still settling down. Finally my boxes from the UK arrived yesterday. I was getting worried they were taking so long and the majority of my shoes, handbags and over 15 hats were in them! So scared they had gotten lost!

Happy New Year guys! Sorry it's a bit belated, i've been crazy busy! So we finally moved to New York this week! It's been really mad so far, furnishing the apartment and organising a million different things. But, yes, it's been incredible too. Yesterday we took advantage of the amazing weather and ventured to Central Park for a well-deserved relaxing afternoon and managed to take these pics at the same time. Last year I did this, it took me until mid-January to prepare the post, so I did it ahead of schedule this time!! Here's my 2011- in outfits. It's been a very eventful year, most importantly completing my PhD, getting engaged and preparing to leave the country to live in NYC! Due to all these things, I haven't had as much time to dedicate to 'mochasoywhippy' as I'd have liked, and I'm so grateful for all you wonderful followers who continue to come back :-). As for 2012, living in NYC I'm so excited to see how the blog will change and develop and how my style might also change along the way. I'm looking forward to the future, and a new adventure!!

A festive wish list

This is a bit of a weird post for me. I never really know what I want for Xmas. Especially this year, with our move to the US being straight after the new year, anything I receive means extra bags, extra boxes to pack, and also I'm just so grateful to be spending the festive season with family and friends before we go away- that's the best present!

However, we all have those items that we dream of owning one day, those that we are completely in love with right now, or those we just think are too cute... And these are mine:

Row 1: Stella McCartney iPhone case (£150), Paris vs New York print (I've been admiring these for our NYC apartment!), Hermes Avalon blanket (the height of luxury in my opinion!)(£870).

Row 2: Liberty 2012 Diary (so sad they are out of stock right now!), Reiss Tilly Cherry Knit (any fluffy jumper that also has pockets is a must-have!) ($149), Mulberry Effie tote (£595), Kate Spade's Guide to Living Colorfully books (just so cute and the perfect gift!) ($35).

Row 3: Madeleine Thompson cashmere sequin hat (it's hard to find a dressy, festive, warm hat- this is all 3!) (£96 on sale), Kate Spade Cosmetics bag (or anything Kate Spade really... This one has little hedgehogs on it!) ($60) and finally the Assad Mounser for Liberty Crystal collar necklace (£390) which would make any outfit extra special.

The pink satchel

Just a little post to show you guys my lovely pink Cambridge satchel! I haven't used it too much yet as it's quite hard to match up with things colour-wise, but I'm certain I'll get plenty of use out of it by spring!

Life is crazy busy right now.. I have my last day at my job on Friday ready for Xmas and the The Big Move. Visas arrived this week, making the whole thing very real... now just need to get the bags packed ready to go! It's exciting but very stressful. xx

Might have a slight obsession with navy and burgundy; I couldn't resist this sweater...! Bought this Cos skirt a while ago, mainly because of the leather pockets on the front. Add pockets to anything and I'm sold! Cos is one of my favourite stores to visit in London, I was so glad they're online now. I hope I can still get it when I'm in the states...

PS: Do you like my new glasses? I'm usually a contact lens wearer but this time I opted for a pair of glasses as well. I'm starting to wear them a lot more, they're pretty fun and make some outfits look completely different!

Reiss is one of my favourite high street stores. I'm in there so often that I feel like I know the staff personally! These wide-legged trousers are one of my best buys, they're ridiculously comfortable and I can wear them for work too. I loved them so much I bought an identical pair in royal blue too! The polka dot top is another Reiss favourite, which I had to refrain from buying in white as well....
I'm headed to Washington DC again for work later this week. Although I'll be busy, I'm excited to visit again and do some early xmas shopping in Georgetown, and hopefully go see the reflecting pools this time! xxx

I'm very indecisive with my outfit choices lately. I bought this skirt about two months ago and then decided to return it. Then I saw it again this weekend (in the sale this time for £13) and fell in love with it so it has a place in my wardrobe once again.
One thing apparently I'm not indecisive on is colour-blocking. When i was going through these photos, I was reminded of an older post with pink, blue and the ubiquitous hat and studded belt. Maybe I'm getting repetitive in my old age...

PS: How do you like the new blog layout? I'm still getting used to the white, but I knew I'd have to do it eventually, even I'm turned off by black backgrounds lately.

Also I wanted to let you know about a new blog i've started up in addition to this one. It's basically a lot of inspiration and general fashion (no pictures of me!) all from a very different perspective to what you might normally see in blogs. I'm really liking brightly coloured and bold printed trousers at the moment. I'm still not brave enough to go as bright as I'd like, these ones are actually quite tame! I saw an advertisement for 'The Kooples' fairly recently where the couple were both wearing complete plum outfits, since then i've been hooked so this hat from last year has been getting a lot of wear too!

Have you all been following the NYFW shows? My favourites have been DKNY and Preen, although i haven't had chance to catch up with all of them yet!

Another new favourite mid-length dress. I do wear other lengths (sometimes!) I promise... these are just my favourites at the moment, and i seem to be doing fairly well finding vintage pieces lately. I actually scored (another) mid-length vintage skirt this weekend, which is covered in polka-dot loveliness. I'm sure i'll show it on the blog soon enough!

Here I am in my local coffee shop again, in the comfiest chair! I was trying to get some work done, but wasn't very successful, I'm so nosy and get distracted looking out the window at people walking by!

What on earth is going on at Topshop HQ this season? They must have hired a shoe fairy... As you can probably tell, i'm well into 'Fall' mode and ready for autumnal colours, ankle boots and loafers. Topped off with studs and animal print, what more could I ask? It seems Topshop have this AW fully covered with these beauties. I don't know how my bank balance will cope!! xxx

This is one of my favourite outfits at the moment. I'm a sucker for anything with lace! I just had to pair it with my new red suede Hermes hat! It has to be the best hat in my large and ever-expanding collection. When I was working in Paris last month by some bizarre miracle I stumbled across a secret Hermes pre-sale on the top floor of the conference centre where I was working. Somehow I managed to be let in during my lunch break. I didn't have time to look over any of the clothes or try them on so I headed straight to the shoes and accessories dept. There were no silk scarves but I was in luck with the hats. I scored this one and a forest green wider-brimmed one :-) This one was a steal at 50 euros down from 495 and is the prettiest hat i've seen.

Very rarely, even working in science has its advantages.

Scored these ankle boots about a month ago in the Topshop sale. At the time I was thinking boots were a silly thing to buy at the start of summer, but they've hardly left my feet since. The weather has been so bad and these are so comfy and actually go with everything!

This skirt is a successful (v. unusual for me) DIY effort. I used the material from a vintage dress I picked up in NYC a few years ago and have never worn. Can't believe i haven't made it into a skirt sooner, i love the fabric!

After a week of torrential downpours and no opportunities for outfit pictures, we finally had a break from the rain! I seized the chance to wear this skirt which i bought whilst in Spain and haven't been able to wear until now. It always makes me sad to see new clothes hanging, unworn, in the wardrobe with their tags still on! I curse the weather! And, yes i know it's another sheer, pleated skirt... but i can't resist them! Sorry I haven't posted for so long! I had my final exam (viva/ defense... whatever you may call it!) for my PhD, and had a crazy amount of revision to do. The day it was over (I passed!), I then had to fly straight out to Paris (for work) for a week! I'm finally back now and ready to relax. This is what I wore yesterday, there was a huge carnival in my town that i went to with friends. Coffee and cake

Just a quick mini-post this weekend :-) After not being so great all week, i ended up having emergency root canal treatment yesterday! I've had a week of very little sleep, so haven't been very dressy unfortunately! I did, however, treat myself to this Alexander McQueen scarf from Harvey Nichols the other day, so took it out for a little spin today while celebrating being able to drink coffee and eat cake again!
I'm not a 'skull' person. At all. But there's something about these scarves that i've wanted one for so many years. In the end i decided just to bite the bullet and get one. This was actually from the Men's SS11 collection. I wanted a colour that i could wear all year round, so chose a darker one rather than pastel/ summery colours- especially as summer only lasts about 5 mins in the UK! Just to be clear, i don't usually go out and splurge on designer things.... Just every so often, i allow myself to get something that i know i will love and wear for a long time. The last thing was my YSL Arty that I got in December. I usually stick to high street over expensive designers!!
Anyways i hope you all had a good week. I'm going on holiday on Tuesday :-) Hope i get some sun! I'll be sure to take lots of photos to share with you guys when i get back xxx

I have literally spent the whole day holding on to my hat in this silly wind! I soon found, after having to chase it down the street 3 times, that holding on tight was the only solution. Although it makes me look like a total poser in these pics!

This is my favourite outfit at the moment. I've been checking out this 'oranges and lemons' silk blouse in Zara for weeks now: I loved the print, but wasn't sure whether it 'worked'. Once I tried it on, i knew it was a winner! I spiced it up with some orange accessories. A lot of bloggers seem to have these bags from AA lately. I actually picked mine up when i was in DC last month, I didn't have anything for it to go with, but figured it was too cute to leave behind, and would double up as a case for my netbook if i didn't use it for anything else. But yay, its perfect for this outfit!

I'm the sort of girl that dresses up. Like 90% of the time: skirts, heels, blouses etc etc... and I think that the blog honestly represents my style from day to day. But we all have those off days, the weather suddenly turns cold and rainy again and you have nothing to wear and should probably stay at home in your PJs. Well, I suppose its only fair to show you guys how i dress on one of those days too! At least i'm still wearing a hat.

My Rodarte tee on its first outing since fashion week. It was the only top i could find to go with the skirt i've been dying to wear. This skirt was a DIY project.... and when i say DIY, I mean 'Get your Mum to do it' rather than "Do it yourself'. Unfortunately I am hopeless with a needle and thread.However, she did a great job too! As the sun was shining i decided to break it up with white accessories, and of course my favourite white hat that i seem to be wearing all the time lately. I found this belt in a local vintage store, it's so cute, you can't really see in the photos it has little gold starfish, shells and ice-creams on it!

Thanks for all the comments on my last post! I'm so glad you all liked the denim dress, I wasn't so sure about it at first but you guys helped me to love it!

Hello! It's another fantastic long weekend! I hope you're all enjoying it so far. Yesterday was the Royal Wedding, so here in the UK we got the day off work. It was amazing to watch and although i've never considered myself as a wedding person, i fell head over heels for he bride's Sarah Burton McQueen dress. The lace was absolutely divine. We held a party for lots of friends to celebrate and had a brilliant time. Needless to say, today has been a much quieter (...recovery...) day!
This is a new dress that i couldn't resist from ASOS, as soon as I saw it, i knew it would be perfect for the belt ('fanny pack' i believe you in the US call it...?!), that i picked up in a vintage store in Georgetown while in DC. I don't often shop at ASOS, because everything i buy always turns out not as i expected or the wrong size- (entirely my fault, i'm a complete internet impulse buyer), and although this is quite short, i really love it!

I'm completely in love with this top/cape!! Although the fringing often gets tangled up with everything... Sorry for the overload of pictures btw, i'm very indecisive today and couldn't choose. This bag is a new purchase from Reiss. I've been eyeing it up fora while now and knew i just had to have it! The tassels are too cute! It hasn't left my shoulder since.

Some of you have been asking about how my tip to DC went. As i was working I didn't see as much of the city as I would have liked. I visited some of the memorials etc but was sad that there were no reflecting pools due to rehabilitation work on the area. Unfortunately I didn't have time to go and see any of the museums either-maybe next time!! I did, however, completely fall in love with Georgetown and managed to spend half a day there (shopping of course) lots of lovely shops! I'll be sharing some of my buys with you soon i'm sure!!

After one day back home, i'm now in Yorkshire (for work again). Taking the opportunity to visit my family up here over the Easter break which is nice. Hope you are all enjoying the hols if you have any right now. I'm looking forward to lots of Easter chocolate this weekend!

Just a quick update, I'm back from DC, but pretty jet-lagged! Trying to stay awake so i can get back to UK time. Anyways, this is the outfit i wore for travelling. Super comfy flats, light skirt and a blazer. I always get so cold on the plane! Tomorrow i'm going to Washingon DC for a work trip. I've never been there before, does anyone have any tips/know of any good shops or areas i should visit?! Right now i'm more excited about the airport and the flight. Heathrow Terminal 5 has lots of shops! And i love airplane movies and even airplane food!!

This skirt was an amazing gift from AA- it's so beautiful and ridiculously comfortable. I have a slight obsession with pleated skirts or long skirts. I have 5 pleated skirts now...oops! And long ones are so lovely to wear, in fact i treated myself to this one too this weekend.

These were taken on my second day at Somerset House for LFW- last Sunday. Yes, the weather is playing havoc with my hair again. If anyone has any hair product recommendations for rainy or moist/humid days they'd be greatly appreciated! :-)

This is not really an outfit post, as the outfit itself is pretty boring! But it's a nice opportunity to share a few fun pics and show some of the accessories I picked up at a local vintage fair recently. The gold chain bracelet was a particularly lucky find as i broke my old one only the day before. Although this one is much more bling!! And i couldn't resist this cute anchor brooch and silk scarf. I'm never as lucky with vintage clothes, I have so many belts, pieces of jewelry and scarves that i've picked up at vintage stores, but only a select few items of clothes that i really love... Maybe next time!

So i'm back from my weekend at LFW! Although fashion week runs for 5 days, having a full time job and not living in the city means that i can only go at the weekend :-( Anyways, I had a blast in London! I spent 80% of my time shopping and visiting my places and the rest checking out the street style and exhibitions at Somerset House. There were a lot of other fashion bloggers hanging around outside, many of whom i recognised but was too shy to say hi! The rain on Saturday, literally put a dampener on things (as you can probably tell from my horrific hair in this pic!) and it was actually freezing yesterday.. i do wonder why fashion weeks always fall in some of the coldest, wettest months...

It was so sweet of Craig to come over and say hi and even remember me and my blog from over a year ago and it's just great that the pic was featured on nymag's The Cut! I realised that i've only ever shown day-time outfits on the blog. This is the kind of outfit i wear for evening (dinner/drinks). The only problem with taking photos before i go out for the evening is poor lighting- so i can only apologise for the lighting/blurriness in these!! I'm hoping to get a tripod very soon!!
This headband was sent to me by AA, (basically it was a long piece of blue velvet with a wire in it) and i was really confused by it! I managed to tie it into a knot at the ends and make a headband/bandana style! Yay. Hope you're enjoying the weekend. I'm going to see Black Swan tomorrow, hope it lives up to the hype. XXX

So i'm finally back to reality after Paris and skiing. I've only been away for a couple of weeks but it seems so much longer. Happy New Year! I'm so sorry i've been away from blogging over the festive season, time really has flown by! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Years celebrations! I've been thinking about getting some boots for a while, until i realised i already had some from last year! So i dragged out this dusty pair- they're nothing special but definitely do the trick this winter!! Its so cold and icy here but unlike the rest of the UK, no snow! I have no idea how we escaped it, but its a bit disappointing- it's always lovely to take pics in the snow.
The shorts i am wearing were sent to me by the lovely Megan at alainbella. They're so comfy and cute! But until the summer i'll have to wear them with woolly tights! Hope you're all enjoying the weekend xxx

Simple twist of fate

So these pictures were taken before my absence, but i never got to show them. I am very lucky that every few weeks a mystery care package from American Apparel arrives at my door. The contents of these vary quite a lot but i'm always so grateful and excited to see whats next! The latest contained these riding pants, amongst other things. These are the least forgiving pants a girl with any curves could possibly wear, but i thought i'd give them a go! After a very self-conscious few hours i had to admit, these are sooo hard to pull off well and i certainly don't look my best! But they are great and super comfortable- perhaps black would be more forgiving for me in future?!!

Its finally reached the time of year where a big coat is acceptable. No, necessary! I have had this coat for years and only worn a few times, its pretty big, but i kinda like that this year. Plus, i'm in love with camel coats! I've still haven't found another one yet.
This red bag is fast becoming a favourite, it hasn't left my shoulder since i bought it on Wednesday. It is the perfect size too!!

I see a lot of fashion bloggers wearing faux-fur this season. I really love the look but have no idea where to start, so i thought i'd start small. I still don't know what i'm doing with this faux- fur thing. One minute i love it and the next i think it's too much... Such was the case yesterday, i started out wearing it, and then a few hours later, it had to go! Maybe its just me, sometimes i can be so indecisive!!

Finding the perfect dress to wear to a wedding is sooo hard! But luckily for me, this dress was a no brainer- i had to have it!! I know everyone is crazy for the 70's thing right now, and i agree, i can't wait to wear some of the 70's style clothes that have been shown at fashion weeks lately. Especially the Topshop Unique stuff. But that's for summer... which is like a million years away!
Right now i'm still embracing camel, big coats, roll neck sweaters and capes. So when i came across this old ed from Vogue UK 2006 (with Gemma Ward, whatever happened to her? i miss her!) i was very happy! Loving the Twiggy vibe. And that camel coat is exactly what i'm looking for... Why do i always fall in love with the items in old eds that i can't get hold of anywhere?!!

PS: what do you guys think to the changes i made: e.g. the bigger pictures on my posts?! I can't decide whether i'm comfortable with them being so big- maybe i'll size them back down again...

So remember a few posts ago i wore my aviator jacket, i mentioned i had another shearling jacket that was more 'me'?? Well here it is! I actually bought this baby back in July, and it's been patiently waiting for autumn to be worn!!
These pics were actually taken yesterday, after i spent all day on Saturday at a wine 'tasting' event so i apologise for not looking my best and for going "sans make-up"! I also spilled Starbucks all over me about 10 minutes prior to them been taken, which is why i probably look a bit grumpy!

I bought these socks ages ago and i never knew what to do with them! At least they add a bit of 'quirkiness' to an otherwise plain outfit. Pushing my boundaries of the amount of leopard print i wear- one step at a time!!

I'm sure many of you might have seen these photos already, but i'm so into this look right now, and i feel like they are so 'me' that i can't resist posting them! Taken from Harper's Bazaar UK, October issue. I'm having a minor love affair with hats (as you can probably tell) tailored trousers, layering and longer coats right now. I already have 2 coats for this winter, but i'm still on the hunt for some more similar to these. And for the perfect camel cape!! love xxx

It's too cold for a silk dress dear

It was deceptively sunny, so in my final farewell to summer i wore this silk dress. At least i was sensible enough to wear tights because it was freezing! Must remember; September= jacket season!! Looking at these pics i realise how creased this dress gets, which sucks. Am i the only person who doesn't iron?!
On another note, i must apologize for the lack of inspiration posts at the moment. I don't mean for the blog to become all outfit posty and 'look at me'! and it doesn't mean i haven't found anything to inspire me lately either, on the contrary, there are so many things i find inspirational right now, all completely different to the next, that i'm having trouble constructing them into a cohesive post. Anyway, i'm sure one will come together soon enough!

No hat for me today, thought it was time for a change!! I bought this lace shirt ages ago for a DIY i have in mind but still haven't got round to it, really need to make more time for these things!!
