Late last year some of you may remember I started up a second blog, to marry my love of fashion, with what I do in my day job- science. Since moving to NY, I haven't had the opportunity to keep both blogs going, but I've realised that I've missed it- and would love to find a way to stream that content into mochasoywhippy...
And so, here's some background.... I started my personal style blog when I was towards the end of my PhD and while I was writing my thesis, clothes were the best escape. People in fashion were often pretty confused when I confessed to being a scientist. It got me to thinking... Do people often stereotype scientists or other postgraduates as sartorially challenged “geeks” with no style and no interest in the matter? Because in all honesty, part of me once agreed with this too, but it's far from the truth. In these posts I’m hoping to document the fashion industry from a different perspective, with a more 'scientific' approach!
I'm not going to talk about science itself. The ‘models’ I refer to will be purely of the skinny, beautiful kind, not computational or otherwise. I might show some graphs though, just for fun.
Here's the first installment, where I documented the SS12 Burberry show...

Figure 1: The Colour Scheme. Muted mustard and berry tones with hints of bright blue and orange.
Figure 2: Prints vs. block colour. Stripes were the most popular print, but half of the looks featured block coloured jackets, dresses or skirts.
Figure 3: The different styles. 100% of all the looks featured a knee-mid length! Yay
This season has to be one of my personal favourites from Burberry (no surprise there, I've said that the past 3 seasons). But who doesn't love a peaked bobble hat?! Knee/midi skirts are a personal fave of mine, perfect all year round, and wearable for all situations (and ages, yeah I know I'm not the only one wary of flashing too much thigh)! Feminine silhouettes, structured trenches (belted at the waist- of course) and a mixture of subtle and bold prints. Bailey even accommodated for a British summer and gave us coats, jackets and knits...Very thoughtful- and practical! Although I by no means have the budget for Burberry, these silhouettes are definitely something I'm aiming for this summer!
