February Snapshots

I usually do my Snapshots posts with pictures I've taken out and about and styled up using Instagram. Unfortunately since I broke my iPhone and am now stuck with a phone reminiscent of the one I had in 2004, this months round-up photos are 'au naturale'...

Happy leap year (day?!). An extra day a year is a gift, use it wisely! This marks the end of almost 2 months living in NYC and being here only gets better, I can't wait for what Spring in the city will bring us!

Colourful basics- Mint and blue

When in doubt, go back to basics. I like to stress my love for staple pieces and this blue skirt is definitely one of my favourites from last year. This is very much an 'everyday' outfit for me, certainly nothing special, just colour blocking with very simple clothes. Mint/seafoam seems to be the colour of the season- I'm seeing it everywhere and I know I'll be wearing this top a lot more over spring. Can't wait to pull out this skirt again either!

(These photos were taken outside the post office behind Madison Square Garden. I do believe this is the nicest post office I've ever been in. I know nothing about architecture but I'm a sucker for pillars!)

NYFW Day 4 and satchel love

Coat: ASOS, Bag: Cambridge Satchel Company, Gloves: Gap (similar here), Hat: H&M (similar here), Boots: Topshop, Skirt: Antipodium (similar here).

Here's what I wore at NYFW day 4!  (Photo courtesy of elle.com). Yes, matchy again, this time inspired by my Cambridge satchel

I actually had the opportunity a couple of weeks ago to go for afternoon tea with the guys behind 'The Cambridge Satchel Company'. It's always great to meet the people behind a brand and find out more about their history. This was particularly nice because the the entire family has gotten involved with the bags and they have such a wonderful story. It's so fantastic to see how successful the company has gotten in such a small space of time, I couldn't even count the number of satchels I saw at fashion week and it was such a pleasure to be supporting them with mine too.

During the tea we got a sneak peak of some of the upcoming collections and colours. I'm in love with the metallic silver bag, and some of the ones that will be released later in the year are even more spectacular! One of the styles of bag I am particularly interested in is the Music Bag. Mostly because I had a traditional music bag back when I played clarinet in school (yes, I was one of those kids) so I'm a little nostalgic and also because once again, they have such a timeless style. I'm definitely going to be getting myself a music bag soon, perfect for work documents! I'm super excited to see what colours the guys come up with next!

A case of the reds

Didn't I tell you I was matching to my hats lately? I wanted a simple outfit for a trip to the NY Public library and sticking to my matchy theme I went for red, white and black.
We actually intended to take photos inside the library, the building is so pretty, but outside is just as stunning and we were bothering less people out there! I can't wait until spring to sit on these chairs outside and just watch the world go by.

Matchy-matchy in burgundy

Sweater and Blazer: Zara (similar here), Necklace: DIY via Angel Court, Hat: Hermes (similar here), Skirt: c/o American Apparel, Shoes: Urban Outfitters (similar here), Bag: Foley and Corinna.

Thrilled to find this blazer the exact same colour as my beloved hat in the Zara sale- and that it was warm enough this weekend to wear it! Matching my outfit to a hat seems to be my thing this week, sometimes I have no idea what  want to wear, except for the hat so I work around that. I'm wearing a lot of these roll-neck sweaters lately too, such a great simple basic piece that goes with everything, I have quite a few of them!
Hope you all had a fantastic weekend.

In my apartment

Having a brand new apartment here in the city has been so exciting for me. When we arrived it was a complete blank canvas- a daunting prospect as I've always lived in fully furnished places before. However, I've embraced the prospect of filling the space with some of our old things, and some new. It feels like it's really coming together and feels like home (although still quite a minimalist one!)

Here's the details: 1. Japanese diary I picked up from BookMarc on Bleecker, Vivienne Westwood earrings (a gift from my mum), and a Baublebar Erickson Beamon necklace. 4. Brown's fashion book (gift from Joan Burstein) and the boy's skull piggy bank (the least girly thing in our place!!). 5. Cambridge satchel, vintage scarf and Marc by Marc Jacobs kiss clutch (similar here). 6. Zara jewelled collar. 7. Japanese tray with my everyday scent Vivienne Westwood Boudoir, Mulberry carousel make-up bag and Dior lipstick (Rock and Roll pink).

It's NYFW! So excited to be living in the city for the event for the first time. It feels very different to LFW! I'm enjoying the events so far, meeting so many incredible people and other bloggers along the way. Stay tuned for more photos :-)

A new take on an old dress

pink cambridge satchelbowler hatblack wool coatvintage print dresspink cambridge satchel
Dress and Belt: Vintage (similar belt here), Coat: ASOS, Bag: Cambridge Satchel Company, Gloves: Gap (similar here), Hat: H&M (similar here), Boots: Topshop

This is more of a summery dress (see how I wore it here), but I really wanted to wear it! The best way was to pair it with all black, but then I decided accentuate the pink by getting out my satchel again! I actually seem to be getting quite a lot of use out of the satchel, despite my initial doubts about the colour being too bright.
One good thing about living in NYC is that, when in doubt, I can always head to Central Park to take outfit photos :-) It's so picturesque!

The Jewelled Collar...

Sweater and tights: JCrew (similar here), Boots: Topshop, Skirt: c/o American Apparel, Bag: Moschino (similar here), Collar: Zara, Hat: H&M (similar here).

I have a incredible love for collars. Ever since the original Miu Miu ones came out, I've been coveting them.. (their latest feather ones are just to die for!). I spied this one in Zara over the weekend and knew it was a must-have. They were flying off the shelves on that particular day, so I was lucky to grab the last one. I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot more of it on the blog, sparkle goes with everything!  :-)
(PS: Excuse my lack of make-up, these pictures were taken after a long, tiring day!)
